There are two types of esophageal cancer – adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma.

Squamous carcinoma – It occurs in upper and middle third, this cancer is most often found in the upper and middle part of the esophagus, but can occur anywhere along the esophagus.

Adenocarcinoma – It is mostly limited to lower part of the esophagus, near the stomach.

Radiation Therapy – It is first deployed to shrink the tumour with carefully directed radiation at the tumour.
