Subtotal Gastrostomy surgery – While performing Subtotal Gastrostomy, the surgeon removes only the portion of the stomach with cancer cells. There are two methods used in this –

• A) Distal subtotal gastrostomy – Performed only if the cancer cells are present in the lower part of the stomach, near the stomach duodenum junction.
• B)Proximal Subtotal gastrostomy – This is done when the tumour is present in the upper part of the stomach and involves the oesophagus.

Total Gastrostomy – It involves removing the entire stomach and some surrounding tissues. Oesophagus and small intestine are then connected, allowing food to move through the digestive system.

Removing lymph nodes- The surgeon examines and removes lymph nodes in the abdomen to remove cancer cells. This is used when the stomach cancer has spread to the surrounding lymph nodes.

Chemotherapy  – In this treatment cancer-destroying drugs are used to treat stomach cancer, when stomach wall layers surrounding the lymph nodes and nearby organs are invaded by the malignant cells. Chemotherapy drugs also are given before surgery for shrinking the tumour and for destroying the remaining cancer cells afterwards.

Radiation Therapy Treatment –Radiation therapy is recommended in combination with chemotherapy or surgery. Specialized techniques are used by highly experienced Radiation Oncologists who help reduce the radiation dose to surrounding healthy tissues.
