Stem Cell Transplantation for Leukemia Treatment – Stem cell transplant, also known as bone marrow transplant, is the most common option used for the treatment of leukemia. In this procedure, diseased bone marrow tissues are replaced with healthy stem cells that can grow into healthy bone marrow on their own.

The stem cell transplant (SCT) allows doctors to use higher doses of chemotherapy (sometimes with radiation) to kill cancer cells. Following the completion of these treatments, the patient receives an infusion of blood-forming stem cells to restore their bone marrow.

Radiation Therapy- It kill cancer cells by exposure to high-energy radiation. In this, energy rays, such as X-rays are used to stop the growth and multiplication of the cancer cells. This energy is directed at any particular part of the body, such as the spleen or also to the entire body to kill malignant cells circulating through the body.

Biological Therapy  – This involves the treatment with those substances that affect the ability of an immune system to kill cancer cells. Monoclonal antibodies and interferon are the two types of biological therapy. The purpose of monoclonal antibodies is to stick to cancer cells in order to draw the attention of the immune system to these cancer cells. Interferon helps in stimulating the immune system so as to destroy the cancer cells. These two options are generally used for chronic leukaemia instead of acute leukaemia.
